Azhar Iqbal is the CEO and founder of Inshorts News app, who started his pioneering journey with his classmates, Anunay Pandey and Deepit Purkayastha from his time at the Indian Institute of Technology in 2013. What started as a mere Facebook page, is now a 500 million dollar worth company with over 50 million active users and over 10 million of videos and content being created monthly.
Today’s smart and digitally aware generation is more inclined to skip long paragraphs of news in newspapers and especially among the Generation Z it is very common. Considering that, Azhar created a Facebook page named “ News in Shorts” that provided people with news and stories, from politics to entertainment in a summarised, more short and crisp manner.
When they started gaining attention through their content, Azhar launched the app Inshorts, which became a digital news hub for reliable updates from the world. Their app gained substantial public traction in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic due to it being a sharp, classy, resiliently short and easy going news provider for its users.
Azhar launched another app called “ Public” in 2019 which is a social networking app that aims to connect people within India among themselves in a variety of varied languages and cultural ethics. His entrepreneurial journey has indeed changed the outlook of getting news and digital content, making him the Business world Young Entrepreneur Award recipient, as well as being recognised with Forbes India 30 under 30 as and Fortune India 40 under 40 award.
