Below is the excerpt of the conversation of Archit, Founder of Sarafa Bazar India with Ankur, Editor, Story Network (SN)
SN -What brought you into this business?
Archit – I’ve done my engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in 2014. After my graduation, I worked for Laanhippo Marketers as a web developer. After a while, I build a startup called Silver eCommerce (Silveria.in) which didn’t turn out well. Then, I worked for SAS Online, a discount brokerage firm where I learned online business development, technical support and online sales. After working there for a year, I came back to my hometown and joined our family business of jewellery. Our family has been in the jewellery business for more than 80 years now. From the last 3.5 years, i have been working here. One day, I found a problem. To find a jewellery manufacturer and search for the latest designs, we need to visit the jewellery exhibitions. There was no online portal. If a jeweller from North India wants to find a jewellery manufacturer in Mumbai, he needs to visit the jewellery exhibition that is held once a year in Mumbai. But, now, jewellers can simply look for designs and manufacturer’s number on our website and mobile app.
SN. What was your eureka moment as a businessman? Would you like to share the credit with anyone?
Archit– I would like to give the credit to COVID-19. Due to corona when all offline exhibitions were banned in 2020, jewellers understood the importance of Online Platform.
SN- Do you think even in the 21st Century, a glass ceiling exists in the business world, especially for your industry?
Archit– Corona and work from home have changed everything. Now, you don’t need to start your venture in metro cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai or Bangalore. We are running our venture from Saharanpur, UP. And in this digital world, we are providing amazing services to the jewellery manufacturers from Mumbai, Rajkot, Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Meerut. We have jewellery wholesalers and retailers spread from North to South. In the beginning, I found it difficult to make people believe that a young guy from a small city like Saharanpur can make a successful portal. But now the city doesn’t matter.
SN- How you balance between professional & personal lives?
Archit– In the initial stage you’ve to forget about your personal life. Many times I had to cancel plans with my friends and focus on my work and so far my hard work has shown positive response only.
SN- What are the major concerns in your industry arising out of COVID-19?
Archit– As I mentioned earlier after COVID-19, Jewellers are looking for online promotion.
SN- How your business going on in this COVID-19?
Archit– Soon we are going to touch a revenue of 5,00,000. COVID-19 made people understand that going online is the necessity and you don’t need to work from major cities. You just need to have an internet connection and you can work from anywhere.
SN- What is the best thing about being an entrepreneur?
Archit– You create something that people think is impossible. At my early stage, many jewellers laughed at me and tried to convince me that I was wasting my time and money. But, believing in yourself and your idea is very important for every entrepreneur. Creating new things, solving problems with a new approach and facing new challenges at every step is what I enjoy about this journey.
